Healthy eating: Memes for the rest of us

This Lenten season, I’ve committed to doubling down on healthy eating and exercise.

Four weeks in, I’m actually doing fairly well and have even managed to drop a few pounds. But that’s not to say it’s been easy.

So I appreciate the abundance of memes that express empathy for my struggle, and can’t resist sharing some of them. Enjoy.

  1. I’ve started on the weight loss journey too. I really started last December and the weight loss part is slow going but physically and mentally I’m feeling better. Here’s what I’m doing. As far as eating goes I haven’t changed so much what I eat as how much, although I did stop putting sweetener in my coffee. I realized that I don’t need to eat until I’m full – only until I’m satisfied. For example, for breakfast I will eat a fried egg but instead of two pieces of toast I will have one piece and instead of three pieces of bacon I will have two and only half a glass of orange juice. I’ve cut back similarly at lunch and dinner. I’ve also started eating more salads and fresh fruit (especially apples and pears). I still eat dessert usually once a day but only enough to satisfy and I find that to be about 3-5 bites. For exercise I’ve started riding my recumbent bike. In December I only did 20 min 3 days a week. In January I did 20-30 minutes about 5 days a week. Now I’m doing about 30 minutes 5-7 days a week. I have found that I can always find an excuse not to ride so I have to make it a priority (other things can wait). I’m down about 9 pounds since Feb 1st and I’m feeling better. I still have a long way to go but it does seem to be working.

P.S. I also got some laughs from this.

    • Good job! During Lent, I’ve been focused on not doing all the random nibbling I usually do between meals, plus adding fruits and veggies to meals. Plus Pete and I have been adding an exercise session each day, either yoga or walking. So far I’ve dropped about six pounds. I have a LONG way to go, but six pounds is a start.

      • Sounds like you are doing great. I think the key is making little changes that work for us and making sure exercise is a priority. This is a case where slow but steady wins. 🙂

  2. I so needed a laugh and you brought that with your post. My husband and I try to exercise inside because up where we live it just too cold to walk outside unless you want frozen face. We talked about joining a gym but the nearest is about 30 miles away. But as I said in my latest post, I am content where I am. I lost quite a bit of weight last year due to bad health and 4 hospital stays, covid for 2nd time. I still do not have taste back, my singing voice or my strength. I feel health at this time and working on keeping it. Blessings
